Business internet

One public IP across internet failover

When your internet switches to backup, the public IP seen by business systems can change. Our managed fixed-IP service lets selected devices use the same outbound public IP across both connections, helping them reconnect to systems that only accept approved IP addresses.

A fixed outbound IP for the devices that need it

Some business applications and remote systems allow access only from an approved public IP address. An ordinary backup internet connection may use a different IP, so restoring connectivity alone may not restore that access.

We configure selected devices to send their outbound traffic through a VPN tunnel to an AWS instance with an Elastic IP attached. This gives that traffic a consistent public IPv4 address when the site changes between its primary and backup connections. This setup is already in use on customer networks.

Work with the connections you have

Keep suitable existing services

We can add the service to existing internet connections. The router must support an OpenVPN or WireGuard client and policy-based routing. We check the exact model, firmware and capacity before proposing a setup.

Choose which devices use the fixed IP

Routing policies select the devices that need a consistent outbound IP. We agree the required applications and check how they behave over the VPN path.

Add primary and backup internet if needed

We can also supply a suitable FTTx or dedicated fibre connection and a backup broadband SIM powered by the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network. Availability and mobile coverage are checked for your site.

Scope, configure and test

  1. 1

    Check the requirements

Identify selected devices, approved-IP requirements, existing connections and the router. Check capacity and the effect of routing traffic through the VPN before agreeing the scope.

  2. 2

    Set up the fixed-IP path

Configure the AWS instance, Elastic IP, VPN tunnel and router policies for the agreed devices. Confirm who manages each connection and the on-site equipment.

  3. 3

    Test failure and recovery

Test internet failover and application recovery. Separately agree and test what selected devices should do if the VPN tunnel or AWS instance becomes unavailable, and record that policy for your site.

Setup once, hosting and maintenance monthly

There is an initial setup charge, followed by a fixed monthly fee bundling hosting and maintenance. We set out the scope, any connection or equipment charges, support arrangements and minimum term in your quote before you agree.

We confirm the scope and costs and get your agreement before paid work starts. Service-specific support arrangements are set out in your quote.

Fixed-IP service questions

Will failover interrupt our work?

A brief interruption can occur. In our deployed setup, the observed interruption during internet failover is around 10–15 seconds. Your router, connections and applications affect recovery; active sessions may need to reconnect. We test the services your business relies on during setup.

What if the VPN or AWS instance is unavailable?

The policy is agreed separately for each customer. We document whether selected devices should wait for the fixed-IP path to recover or may use an alternative route with a different public IP, and test the agreed behaviour for your site.

Does this include inbound access or port forwarding?

This offer is scoped around outbound traffic from selected devices using one public IP. Tell us separately about inbound access, hosting or port-forwarding requirements so we can assess them before quoting.

What support arrangements apply?

Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm (Sydney local time), excluding NSW public holidays. All existing customers can request urgent assistance during evenings, weekends and public holidays using the contact details shared privately with them. We do our best to help, subject to staff availability. Service-specific responsibilities and support arrangements are set out in your quote.
