The short answer

Most of these Panasonic systems can register a SIP trunk directly. Where a system cannot, an analogue adapter can connect the SIP service to its existing analogue lines. Network preparation, parts availability and the features your team needs help determine whether keeping it is sensible.

Which Panasonic systems can stay?

We support and move Panasonic systems across the range to SIP: older systems such as the KX-TDE, the KX-NCP500 and NCP1000, and the KX-NS700, NS1000 and NSX1000.

How the connection works

Most of these systems can register a SIP trunk directly. Where a system can't, an analogue adapter converts the SIP service into analogue lines the phone system already understands, so it can still be kept.

The most common problem we see

Calls that drop, one-way audio, or phones that stop receiving calls after the change are often caused by the office network rather than the phone system. A router feature called SIP ALG, and firewall ports that haven't been set up for SIP, are the usual culprits. We work with your IT provider so these are configured before the changeover.

When keeping it isn't the best choice

Panasonic has withdrawn from the Australian business phone system market, so new systems and manufacturer support are no longer available here. That doesn't make a working system obsolete overnight.

Keeping a working system is often sensible. We'll tell you plainly when the trade-offs change: when replacement parts become hard to find, when faults are recurring, or when your team needs features the system can't provide.

How we plan and test the changeover

We run the old and new services side by side. Your phone system is connected to both your existing lines and the new SIP trunk, and we set up test numbers so you can make and receive calls on the new service before anything is switched. On the agreed cutover date your numbers are transferred, and we move them onto the SIP trunk.

Moving to a cloud phone system instead?

If you're replacing the phone system with a cloud system such as Webex, Yeastar or 3CX, we install the new handsets about a week early. Your team gets user guides, can practise calling each other, and is comfortable with the new phones before the switch.
